To “Imo” – let me get this straight, are you saying that the SHOW was poor because he didn’t meet fans? What were you there for, the SHOW or just to meet him? I’ve talked to many people who attended the show and they said it was brilliant, with Russell on top form. It’s unfair to say that the show wasn’t good just because he didn’t come out to sign autographs. A little reality check is in order here, I think.
Too many of Russell’s fans are into this for reasons that have very little to do with his comedy, it seems. They’re into the “cult of personality” – it’s all about trying to get replies from him on Twitter or meet him or sleep with him. Sort of unfortunate, considering he really IS an excellent performer, not just a persona.
Listen, how many famous people do each of us know? Me, none at the moment. I am a supporter of both Katy and Russell, together and independently, but we have no idea what they are like in private. It’s is quite presumptuous to discuss Katy’s intellect and private family dynamics. GED or diploma, what we see in interviews is what she and her PR folks want us to know. She could be a bumbling idiot or Madam Curie, it makes no difference, Russell likes her.
Okies…to start with, what Pearl has stated, “You know, I was sensing that a certain sector of female fans would start with a backlash against Russell now that he’s in a relationship, and here it is…” Imo Loves You Lots has proven this! Eeeps! Imo Loves You Lots, I would like to thank you for supporting my comments, and I know your mad that Russell bailed on you guys, but I do have to say, your comment was a tad over the top there…whoa gurl! LOL! To continue, I particularly like and agree with what CJ had to say, especially ”The one thing I will grant you, if at some point at RAH he actually said he was going to meet fans afterward and he didn’t, that’s his fault.” I agree! Don’t say you’ll come out and meet people, build up their hopes and then not come out, that’s just not nice and for that, he should apologize. Pearl, he does OWE it to people, if he says he’s going to come out to meet them and then he doesn’t?! WTF? Like, if he changed his mind, he could of at least “tweeted” about it and say something like…”I am sorry everyone, I was tired after gig, and had to bail” ya know?! Keep it real. Sheila says: Things always keep changing — maybe he has had enough of you “Brandy Strippers” and your demands of his time and energy. – The thing is Shelia, Russell has brought all of that on himself, don’t you think? – Since he’s the one who made sure he “interacts” with his fans, and if he now wishes to change all that, he really needs to make a public announcement on his blog, about his changed boundaries. I know some fans won’t like it, and you can’t please everyone, but again, stop making promises about meeting people after a gig and not following through on it…he’s just going to make it worse for himself, know what I mean? God forbid some ravenous fan goes ape shit and hunts him down, especially now that he’s selling his home, and it’s been broadcasted all over the net. We all know where he lives for the now, thanks to the paps and entertainment media twits broadcasting it. I’m just concerned for him with regards to that, and I totally understand why he is now restricting cuddling his fans and stopping the up close and personal stuff, and that sucks that he gets groped without his consent! Eeeps! Creepy hands on muh body! BTW, Katy and Russell are a brilliant match, they make sense to me. Katy has a beautiful personality, she is bonkers and full of life! But the fact is, he’s always done that, and nobody here is acknowledging that this is not a new development. It’s not because of his “changed lifestyle” really. There have been lots of times in the past when he said he’d come out to meet the fans, and then didn’t, for whatever reason. Nobody made a federal case out of it then.
Also, while YOU personally may be only upset that he said he’d do something and then didn’t follow through, it’s obvious that there are numerous other fans who think that if Russell doesn’t come out to meet fans (whether he said he would or not), they’re somehow being “cheated” out of the experience they paid for. No performer is obligated to do meet & greets, regardless of what they’ve done in the past. If he is no longer going to do meets at every show (which he didn’t always do in the past anyway), he doesn’t have to put an official statement on his blog – that’s a bit much. The fact is, he DOES still do them when he can … he met lots of fans after the Pleasance show last week. He also took time to meet people at the recent shows in LA.
