It’s unfortunate that sometimes Russell says he’s coming out to meet fans and then doesn’t but anyone who follows his career knows this can happen, it’s a risk you take if you choose to hang around. He’s never been great at admin.
I don’t think he’s said he won’t hug fans, he was certainly hugging people last week at the Pleasance. He’s said he won’t be having sex with fans after gigs which imo can only be good for him and his career.
Russells’ kind, caring and “accepting of all” attitude is clearly reflected in the attitudes of his fans. I think that his “offers of genuine love” deeply touched the hearts of many many people – probably more than what he realises. He should be damn proud of the example he has set to his fans – because as far as I can see, they are all genuinely good hearted people. (not saying they wouldn’t be if it weren’t for him…but I don’t have a way with words and it would probably make more makes sense if i did…trust me!)
I hope he goes far, gets married and has lots of little babies – he deserves it!
Also I was a die hard fan of the radio show and still listen to podcasts while cleaning! That stuff never gets old!
Talk of toilets taking on totemic/ritualistic roles……. reminds me of Julian Cope’s revelations about taking a daily dump near Silbury Hill to unite him with Mother Earth.
I suppose this is as close as Russell will ever get to inhabiting a garden shed, the place some men typically retreat to to pontificate about the meaning of life/hide their porn?
PS. Bored lavatorially by all this talk of whether Russell owes his fans a personal audience after gigs. Never has their been a star of such magnitude more devoted to his followers.
Back on topic – beautiful video and a fantastic gig at RAH – thank you Russell for all the fun and happiness you have brought and bring to so many of us.
Wishing you all the best both in your career and in your private life. x
I was at the Royal Albert Hall gig. And you were fabulous. Though I adored your work before hand I now love it even more. And I LOVED Mr Gs poems. They were awesome. Much loves xx
I was at Royal Albert Hall.
I was more annoyed at the fact that I already had most of the material on DVD to be honest, and I’d travelled 16 hours for something I could’ve watched at home.
I just honestly felt like his heart wasn’t in it, and didn’t feel any kind of connection to what he was saying, like I have done with most of his other material. (all except the ‘poofta’ jokes. DOES MY HEAD IN.)
Obviously being lied to didn’t help, but it wasn’t the main cause of concern.
But he seems on form in this video. Maybe he’s just got a lot on his mind right now and is having a lot of highs and lows?
I like what Sarah said above – “Never has there been a star of such magnitude more devoted to his followers.” So true.
As for the video, well, I’m positively chomping at the bit to see the rest. ;-) My Scandalous DVD is somewhere en route over the ocean I assume. I’m thrilled to know that not only will I be able to watch the O2 show, but also to see a full in depth interview like this. That’s the kind of “DVD extras” that make it more than worth the purchase price. Thanks for everything, Russell & team.
Russell, I am really looking forward to this DVD and I’m excited to learn that it contains an interview. I love to hear you talking about how you approach your work. Your DVDs always seem to be put together with loving care and with an eye for what might interest your fans the most.
You have given terrific performances this week, and it has been exciting to hear new material mixed in.
At the Pleasance you were so kind and thoughtful towards the people you met after the show.
For what it’s worth, I think you have been more than generous towards your fans over the years. Your personal life isn’t my business, but if you have found someone special then I am delighted for you and I wish you well. I think you are entitled to some privacy.
As Alexandra Bendo says, at the Pleasance this week Russell showed by his kindness, patience and good humour that he is as connected to his British fans as ever. I have followed his career for a few years now and I don’t think he’s ever been more happy and relaxed. Maybe the relationship with KP is contributing to this and, if so, good luck to them both. x

Oh also what is on his arm in the video? A tattoo?
He always has something worth while to say – this video is no exception.

I could listen to you talk forever! X
