Thought that was referring to a remake of the old Ric Mayall TV series at first.

  2. Roland says:

Has Russell been mentioned in one of the wiki cables yet?
“Advise on visit of U.K. comedian, revolutionary, celebrity Russell Brand” CONFIDENTIAL

  3. Roland says:

CONFIDENTIAL “Likely to insult president Bush while performing at the MTV awards and call our youth repeatedly towards unlimited fornication instead of war, advise on C.I.A sending pop singer Katy Perry as distraction and moderating influence” CONFIDENTIAL “USE THE PLASTIC BOTTLE OF DOOM AT YOUR DISCRETION”

You can’t subscribe to the ‘NewStatesman’ outside of the UK can you?
Is there any possibility of me somehow swhindling a copy in Australia anywhere?
    Cheers

  7. aussie wiki cheers says:

I think Aussies will miss out on getting hands on copy ,but isnt that why we invented people like Julian in the first place to keep us informed,he’s doing what he should, and Russell is more likely to support him because most governments suck!

Yes, you can subscribe to the New Statesman anywhere in the world.
    Do read Russell’s column. Terrific.
And a great interview with Ricky Gervais in the same issue. Enjoy!

It’s sad that all the comments left under the post on Facebook for your article in the New Statesman don’t even pertain to your article, which further enforces the points that you include in your article about the general state of our culture. “Our ongoing colonial wars” is right on the mark, and in my opinion, thought provoking and a pinnacle of your article. However, what does this article say about your faith in human beings? Do you truly believe that ALL politicians and/or those involved in government are not well meaning in the slightest and are truly “a bunch of deceitful, ham-fisted chumps”?

  11. Grateful for laugh says:

Darling Jess, he means what he says and so do we love yet another Aussie with an opinion to put out there and they do suck!

  12. Liz says:

It’s very sad to see Russell joining the chorus otherwise left, liberal and forward thinking people taking a dail-mail-esque rape apologist stance on this issue.

Russell should be speaking out against victims of rape, not underming them by dismissing therir claims and euphemising rape as “dubious sexual behaviour” and “convenient”

    to quote Tiger Beatdown:
“So, here are some cheerful statistics for you: According to RAINN, about 60% of rapes aren’t reported. In those cases, there’s about a 51% chance that the 40% of reported rapes will have an arrest made. There’s an 80% chance of prosecution. And, given various factors including conviction and sentencing, there’s only about a 16.3% chance that someone who commits rape will serve time for that rape. Meaning: If we factor in the rapes that go unreported, only 6% of rapists ever serve time. EVER.

Gee, it sounds like making sure that rape accusations are taken seriously, and pursued to the full extent of the law, in all cases, is a pretty important issue, for progressives!

Meanwhile, here are some facts: A man has been accused of rape by two separate women. He fled the country in which he was accused. He is fighting extradition, so that he won’t have to go back to that country and face charges — even though there are spectacularly low rates of conviction for accused rapists, he just doesn’t think that he should have to go through the system, for whatever reason.”

  13. Liz says:

Sorry, that should be “speaking out FOR” victims of rape, and “chorus of” otherwise left ect

  14. Kayleigh says:

I love you Russell I hope you read this!!!!
