Enjoyable, as always – love Kerouac – “One man practicing kindness in the wilderness is worth all the temples this world pulls.” ― Jack Kerouac, The Dharma Bums – glad to see you taking on the joyous freedom of life they exemplified.

Thank you for the eloquent reminder to stay open to the amazing possibilities available in each moment. How true and basic, yet how easy to forget. When I experience something unexpectedly awesome today — and I’m sure I will! — I’ll think of your lovely words, and send you a smile of thanks.

The fundamental truth and understanding of the human experience opens up the potential for all to be realized. I’d love to discuss the principles with you Russell, you are so close … yet, however close you think and then feel you get, that isn’t it … & that’s the beautiful thing for all 7 billion of us _ the journey never ends. There is always another insight, another realization … always more fun and happiness to enjoy. Thanks for all you share.

There is a philosopher called Krishnamirti who lived in California (I think in or near Ojai) who can speak the truth of life and is interested in it as you are. You kind of remind me of him a bit in your truth seeking.

Remaining very “alive” and full of life is amazingly difficult and seems to meet controversy alarmingly too much in this life–doesnt it? Why?

I think its because of fear. Most people are so filled with fear—fear of standing out, saying what is real, etc, etc…..so the person who is truthful and open and loving (like you are often times) is both an attractive person and also (the other side of this coin) the scapegoat—Why?

In a way, its about society struggling to keep a kind of balance between freedom and necessity. The average person must pay bills and enjoy. The emphasis is on the” AND.”

individuals need both order, rules( earn living to have house and food) and also love and freedom and irrerverant expression and risks, etc.—feelings are the part that feels alive—-but expressing feelings can always evoke both positive and negative reations in any person at any time… you can love women, but that would piss off the woman who believes she has an exclusive arrangement with you—this is also biological for her (trust, nest, children, safety, certainty, etc.)

So, balance is really one way to “keep the peace.” This is why compromise and negotiation are necessary in human relationships. To keep the peace while trying to remain alive and free as a human.

I think John Stuart said it well when he said “women are looking for the one man who can fulfill all their desires and needs whereas men are looking for all women to fill their one need. This is obviously simplistic, but it has some truth, no?

  7. Bonnie Blum says:

My mother always told me if you have your health you have everything. She was a very wise woman. I have lived my life by her words. To live and understand that the most wonderful things in life are not the things you can buy or possess, but the things that give you simple pleasure. The innocence of a child’s hug, a pet’s unconditional love, reading a book on a rainy day and listening to the rain drops fall. Closing my eyes and seeing the face of my mother that has pasted, but hearing her voice telling me she loves me. For me this is simple yet very spiritual. I love every day, a gift that has been given to me not to waste. I always say I love you to those I care about. Freeing your soul from all that is unimportant and appreciating the gift of life and all the simple things that are right in front of you is the first step to the path of true spirituality. LIVING LIFE LIGHT AND LOVING LARGE IS WHAT IT IS ALL ABOUT. I know you are there Russell….Live, Love and enjoy!
